A very merry Christmas here at Chez Monster.
We've still got a metric buttload of food left, but none is especially perishable or even needs to be heated up. We aborted mission on a bunch of stuff that was supposed to be made at the last minute when it was painfully obvious that running out of food was a physical impossibility. So, not only is my fridge reassuringly full, and the counter loaded with lotsa snax both sweet and savory (Wolfie keeps delurking just enough to grab pita chips and hummus). but we also have a freezer stocked with backup goodies aplenty. My freezer already had things like a big (20 poundish) turkey and a couple of boneless hams and such, and now has unbaked reuben puffs and pigs in blankets and goat cheese in phillo and the like.
I've got loads of extra pecan butter tarts and dipped pretzels (basic little butter braid pretzels in milk chocolate and crushed-fine Oreos) and chocolate spritz cookies and mini cheesecakes as well as some store-bought mixed European cookies that I'm a sucker for every year. I'd already planned on sending of a food package but had figured I'd be baking in the morning. There's so much that will ship well anyway that I'm just going to wrap it up and send it tomorrow.
Tomorrow I'll also be meeting up with my best friend and her husband. Talked to them for the first time in a dog's age and got waves of bliss bliss bliss from them...I'm so glad that things are working at their end too. Sometimes things get rocky, what with the money and the family and everything else, so it's great to feel those times when you know that everything is OK, even if just for this moment. It's especially gratifying to know that that zone of peace and contentment is further out and enfolds those who mean something to you as well.
May you all also have peace and joy and contentment.
Sounds like fun. You make me wistful for a North American family/winter Christmas. Christmas in the tropics just isn't the same!
Nice to see you back posting as well - I wondered where you'd gone....
